Artifact 1: Analysis of Mandatory Newborn Screening Using a Feminist Ethical Lens

In this assignment, I critically assessed the ethical issues surrounding mandatory newborn screening through frameworks such as cultural relativism, feminist ethics, relational autonomy, and social justice. Researched through scholarly literature and CNO practice standards, I examined how nurses can advocate for vulnerable populations while ensuring culturally safe, equitable, and patient-centred care.

I chose this artifact because it represents my knowledge and growth in ethical theory and its translation into real-world nursing practice. Being exposed only to hospital settings, this discussion pushed me to think beyond policy and consider how newborn screening affects families' everyday lived experiences, power dynamics, and vulnerabilities. This assignment deepened my understanding of compassionate, equitable care and reinforced my commitment to culturally safe, inclusive healthcare practice.

Artifact 2: Nursing Care Plan - Impaired Skin Integrity in Complex Patient

This artifact is my detailed nursing care plan, which I created during my Practical Nursing Practicum. It focuses on a 52-year-old patient I had been caring for. This patient was diagnosed with anoxic brain injury, chronic immobility, and impaired skin integrity. Using comprehensive assessment findings, laboratory data, and evidence-based interventions, I developed individualized goals and nursing interventions to promote wound healing and prevent further skin breakdown.

I selected this care plan as one of my artifacts because it demonstrates my ability to combine critical thinking, clinical assessment skills, and evidence-based practice to support patients with complex conditions. Creating a care plan strengthened my confidence in utilizing nursing frameworks and taught me the importance of early intervention and patient/family education.

Artifact 3: Palliative Care - Persuasive Essay

This artifact is a persuasive academic essay I wrote, focusing on the importance of palliative care, pain management, support for patients and families, and the role of nurses in providing comfort, dignity, and quality of life at the end of life. This essay highlights the value of therapeutic communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the emotional impact of caring for patients during their final stages of life.

I developed a deeper understanding of the emotional, physical, and clinical complexities of palliative care. This assignment helped me recognize how essential pain management, communication, and dignity are at the end of life. It reinforced my commitment to providing compassionate, person-centered care to both patients and families during their most vulnerable times.
